The Origin Story of the Tesla Owners Club of Austin
A legendary beginning that started with one Tesla owner and a chance meeting with Elon Musk at the Texas State Capitol.
2012-2013
The First Tesla
After closely following Tesla since its inception, Matt Holm ordered his first Model S in 2012, marking his first-ever new car purchase. It was delivered in March 2013, just a week later. Tesla invited the handful of Austin-based Tesla owners to support a transition to direct sales in Texas at the state capitol during the 2013 congressional session.
The Legendary Meeting
Meeting Elon Musk
A handful of Tesla owners gathered after the event and decided they needed to advocate for this amazing company. They began more concerted efforts at Cars and Coffee events, organized gatherings to make extension cords, and shared mapping out possibilities for RV parks—since there were no superchargers at the time—so people could road trip around Texas.
By 2015, Tesla reached out to the club to offer official designation as an enthusiast arm of the Tesla brand. Over the following years, the club grew from hundreds to thousands of members, becoming a vibrant community of Tesla advocates and enthusiasts.
"They sought volunteers to arrive early and give rides to the press. Matt ended up being featured in two news broadcasts and sat in testimony behind Elon Musk while he waited to speak."
"During lunch that day, Elon turned around, recognized Matt from the news reports, and asked if he could do anything for him. Matt sheepishly asked if he could come to his car and sign his sun visor and license plate, and Elon graciously agreed."

Foundation
Tesla Owners Club of Austin was officially founded with the first meetup attracting 15 Tesla owners at a local coffee shop in downtown Austin. This marked the beginning of our journey to build a thriving Tesla community in Central Texas.
Elon Meeting
Despite pandemic challenges, we held our first official meeting with 25 members, establishing our core values and mission statement. This pivotal moment set the foundation for our organized growth.
Tesla Recognition
Received official recognition from Tesla as an authorized owners club, gaining access to exclusive events and resources for our growing community. This recognition validated our efforts and opened new opportunities.
Leadership Growth
Expanded our leadership team and established committees for events, education, and community outreach, reaching over 100 active members. Our structured approach enabled better organization and member engagement.
Global Impact
Organized our largest event yet with over 200 attendees, launched educational workshops, and established partnerships with local sustainability organizations. This year marked our transition to a major community force.
Official Independence
Became a fully independent organization with our own website, membership system, and regular programming serving over 300 Tesla owners across Central Texas. Our independence allows for greater flexibility and growth.
Strengthened Leadership
Enhanced our leadership structure with specialized roles and committees, ensuring sustainable growth and continued excellence in serving our community. This evolution positions us for long-term success.
The Two Musketeers
Matt Holm and Anuarbek Imanbaev form the dedicated leadership team of the Tesla Owners Club of Austin, each bringing their unique expertise and passion for Tesla and sustainability. Together, they drive the club's mission forward, fostering a vibrant community and advocating for the future of electric mobility.

Community Outreach
We partner with local organizations to promote sustainable transportation and educate the community about electric vehicles. Our outreach programs have reached over 1,000 Austin residents through workshops, demonstrations, and community events.
Environmental Projects
Through our environmental initiatives, we've organized tree planting events, supported local clean energy projects, and advocated for expanded charging infrastructure throughout Central Texas. Our efforts have contributed to planting over 500 trees in the Austin area.
Advocacy Efforts
